Hello all. December is upon us - where has the time gone!
We are excited to show you some of the pictures of the Anishinaabe animal masks we made with the kids. They even came up with plays together and showed them to the class. The kids did an amazing job cutting and decorating their masks (totally independently) and we love how unique they all look - all the bears, foxes, rabbits, deer and owls. Great job everyone!

We've been using a lot of snowman themed math centres to practice our number sense - matching numbers with their tally marks, ten frame representations, equations, and so many other ways. Here is one group showing off their completed snowman math puzzle - we are as proud as they are. We also make sure to make time for puzzles each week. Our kids always ask for pictures when they finish a puzzle - we know they are feeling very accomplished when they want a picture taken.

This Friday we also had our PJ/stuffy/favourite book day. We loved to see all the lovely books the kids brought in, and everybody looked so cozy. We shared lots of books with each other and had a mini pajama movie party during snack where we watched Knuffle Bunny. The author who wrote Knuffle Bunny, Mo Willems, also wrote the Piggie and Gerald books. All the kids love his books.

We are going to be ramping up our sight word literacy work. Please ensure you are doing your home reading with your child as often as you can. If the book seems too easy for your child (and they can even read it backwards) please send a sticky note in their bag and we will be glad to move them up. We will also be working on a list of sight words each week with a small 'spelling test' (done with friends) at the end of each week. The words of this week will be: girl, boy, is, has, like. See if you can find these words in your home reading books!
Please also note a very special message about the ziploc bags you found in your child's backpack this week:
Dear Parents,
Today we are sending home something special. This year, Cranston students and staff have decided to support other schools’ students who may not be as fortunate as us by providing them with a Christmas gift bag.
I am sending home a large ziplock freezer bag with a list inside it. The list has required items and other ideas for the Christmas bag for a student. We are requesting that spending be between $15-20 (please do not exceed $20 as we want to ensure all students are receiving approximately the same amount). All items must be new.
Examples of Required Items: Travel size shampoo, tooth brush, tooth paste, bar of soap, deodorant, toque.
Other Ideas: gloves, small toys, bouncy balls, pencils, bracelets, candy, play dough, no toy weapons.
Participation in this initiative is voluntary. Please return THIS BAG and PAPER LIST to school by Wednesday, December 6. All items must be able to fit in the Ziplock bag provided. Students and teachers will begin the process of decorating gift bags and making cards after that date. Gift bags will be delivered to three CBE schools on December 12.
Thank you for your continued support,
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kenna, Ms. Cvach, and Ms. Pipo.
