June 15, 2018

Dear Parents,

This will be our last Blog of the year.  Any communication after this will be by email.  We have enjoyed working with your children for the last year (or two!) and will miss them!

This week in Literacy we did a lot of writing.  First we wrote in our journals about our personal experiences.  We did a "Making Words" lesson with the following letters: c o u n t y f a i r.  The children did a super job of figuring out the mystery word.

We have been working very hard on our animal diaries.  The children are demonstrating a great sense of humour as they write a new page each day to document their animal's adventures.

We finished reading Charlotte's Web.  I think we all had a tear in our eye when we found out what happened to Charlotte in the end :-(

Our words for June 18-22 will be:

  • spring
  • summer
  • favourite
  • holiday
  • yay
In Math this week, Ms. Cvach's math group has been learning how to play "21".  Trying to decide whether to stay or take another cards is pretty tricky! To modify this game, students in Ms Kenna's math group have been playing "12". This game involves the same rules as 21 by adding multiple numbers and deciding to take another card or "stay". Students enjoyed this and re-named it "Over and Out to 12" This is a great game to play at home and the total can be adjusted to any number.

We went for our final walk to the pond to look for materials for our Father's Day gift.  It was another beautiful day.  The cattails are growing again!

For Art this week we were very creative and made something special for Dad. The students used a variety of materials and mediums to create their masterpieces. We hope you enjoy them!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Cvach
